A natural makeup look works for everyone, no matter the age, and it’s easily achieved with a few products. Whether you are in your 20s or 60s, a fresh, natural makeup look enhances your appearance, adding radiance and vitality to your innate beauty.

Read on as we explore the everyday makeup looks that work for any decade, from simple eye makeup to a fresh foundation base.

First Things First: About Skin Prep

Achieving a clean canvas is always the first step before applying makeup, and if you’re opting for a natural makeup look, skincare is especially important.

Prep your skin by routinely cleansing and moisturizing your skin. This will keep your complexion fresh, and it lets your makeup products sit how they should: seamlessly, without any cakiness. Start with our Cleansing Stick to gently wash away impurities like makeup and dirt. Great for all skin types, it’s effective and leaves behind essential oils the skin needs.

No matter your skin type, moisturizer is a must. It may seem counterintuitive to moisturize oily skin, but doing so will help balance oil levels. Our Light Moisture Cream contains niacinamide, which can help maintain healthy sebum production

Drier skin types will benefit from our Miracle Cream. It’s packed with shea butter, a super moisturizer that may help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that appear as we age.

What You Need

Once your skin is clean and moisturized, you don’t need many makeup products to keep things natural. A natural makeup look isn’t meant to be complicated, but if you want to play up certain features, then of course, you can always customize the intensity.

Regardless, you’ll want to have color-correcting products—foundation and concealer—on hand to create a healthy-looking base. From there, there are some foolproof ways of achieving a simple look that emphasizes your natural beauty. Some always-reliable additions: a defined brow; a hint of color on the cheeks; and inky, volumized lashes.

Let’s take a look at a few effortless looks.

1. Fresh and Dewy

This one is the epitome of “your skin but better.” Think healthy complexion, glowy cheeks, defined lashes.

Nourished skin does most of the work here, so don’t forget to start with your choice of moisturizer to build up your natural radiance. (For this look especially, you’ll want to primarily focus on skincare to prime your complexion.) Once your moisturizer has sufficiently been absorbed, then you can put on your base products and focus on color correcting. From there, a swipe (or two) of mascara and a soft wash of color on the cheeks tie it all together.

2. Shimmery and Glowy

Sparkle has historically suffered a bad rap for skewing juvenile, but we have to disagree. Even if you’re contending with fine lines and wrinkles, a slight shimmer delivers an unbeatable, yet still subtle, glow that strikes the right balance between youthful and sophisticated.

Once you’ve built up your base and concealed discoloration like under-eye circles or dark spots, consider adding sparkle to the eyes and a gloss to the lips for additional texture and gleam. Build up your intensity if you want to take it from natural to night-out-ready.

3. Smokey Elegance

Elegance is understated confidence—and it doesn’t require much to pull off. This look draws attention to the eyes and lips equally, and quietly at that.

Like with all natural looks, this one relies on nourished, covered skin. A flawless complexion keeps the focus on an easy smokey eye—notice that hint of sparkle, too—with a softly colored lip. Defined brows add instant polish, while a natural flush of color livens up the cheek.

4. Pinky and Peachy

This natural look is all about creating a sun-kissed glow. Since you want warmth to shine through, you can opt to skip foundation and concealer.

Rosy cheeks are innately youthful, as are slightly pink lips. But there’s nothing girlish about this one—it’s ladylike and sophisticated. To accomplish this warmth, lightly apply your blush or bronzer of choice to the areas of your face where the sun would naturally hit, like your forehead, nose, and cheekbones. A pinky gloss completes the look.

5. Classic

Timeless beauty is all about softly enhancing your features. Focus on evening and brightening your base, then enhance your eyes with a soft eyeliner along the lash line.

Add back in a natural flush of color on your cheeks—it never fails to impart a youthful glow, and it’s utterly timeless. Depending on your preference, this may mean a sun-kissed sweep of bronzer or a healthy pop of pink. (In this look, bronzer and face powder work in tandem to emphasize her tone.)

6. Bare-Faced

With freckles peeking through and a sheer lip, this one embraces the least amount of coverage. Well-moisturized skin steals the show, and lashes, enhanced with a light coat of mascara, are a minimalist’s dream. This is as natural, and easy to achieve, as it gets.

Whatever your age, some underlying tips and tricks will elevate whatever natural finish you choose.

Pay Attention to Formulations

Makeup comes in different formulations. Liquids, creams, balms, and powders all have their respective places in your makeup bag, depending on your skin type

Powder formulations can absorb excess oil and keep skin from looking greasy, so if you deal with oily skin, you may prefer these.

Those with drier skin may want to lean into balms and creams. These formulations will hydrate the skin and give it a plumper, nourished appearance.

Look at Ingredients

Clean, high-performance ingredients are more gentle on the skin and can improve the overall appearance of your skin.

At Jones Road Beauty, we have a few ingredients in our arsenal that are effective for your skin:

  • Jojoba oil: this oil is full of fatty acids and antioxidants. It is great at hydrating, especially for those with oily skin.
  • Sunflower seed oil: another oil with fatty acids, this oil can also help manage the amount of blemish-causing bacteria.
  • Shea butter: this rich, moisturizing butter helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and is easily tolerated by all skin types.
  • Rosehip oil: this oil has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated skin. It can also help to support the skin’s moisture barrier.
  • Niacinamide: this ingredient is used in skincare to even the appearance of skin tone and texture.
  • Sodium hyaluronate: This ingredient is known to hydrate and plump the skin and minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

The Bottom Line

If you’re considering embracing a natural look, knowing your skin type and what ingredients work with your skin will help you understand how highlight your natural beauty across all decades. With the right products, you’ll find something that makes you feel confident and comfortable—but the most important thing is don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things.
