5 Easy Ways to Recover From Post-Vacation Blues
Written by: FIT LIKE KRYS
So, you’re back from vacation and had a wonderful time, but paradise has left you feeling a bit puffy and parched. I get it. And I have perfected the art of turning that “post vacation woe” into a “happy to be home glow.” Here’s what you can do...
Ready, Set, Cardio
Run, bike, box...just sweat. This is less about burning calories and more about getting back into a healthy mindset. (Okay, it might be about both.) Get in at least 30 minutes of heart pumping movement the day after you get back and plan for three days in a row post-vacay. The extra endorphins will catapult you back to a healthier, happier mind.
Portion Perfect
Chances are you ate everything under the sun. Don’t stress. And don’t bother with the quick fix cleanses and crash diets. Just eat a little less. You don't have to go nuts measuring or weighing your food. Make it simple. Leave 3-5 bites leftover from each meal. You'll save yourself from 1000s of calories in just one week.
Exfoliate
Nothing like a good shower after a vacation. You feel the bad decisions being washed away... But seriously, for your first shower back, plan for some extra time scrubbing every square inch. Chances are you put your skin through the ringer under the sun (and possibly under the influence) so give your bod 15 minutes of TLC with a full body and face mask. One of my favorites is LUSH Cup O’ Coffee. After your shower, ditch the lotion and rub down with some body oil. My favorite is Replenish Body Oil by Elyse Marie.
Be Happy
Each one of us has so much to be grateful for and it's easy to get into a sad slump after a dose of sunshine and piña coladas. Try meditating before bed. Just use a meditation app or your iPhone timer and lock yourself in the bathroom. With the Calm app, you can choose unguided meditation (and listen to birds chirping or waves crashing) for anywhere from one to five minutes. Bring to mind some things you are grateful for and try your best to lengthen your inhales and focus on full exhalations.
Hydrate Inside & Out
I know, groundbreaking. Even though you know how important hydration is, you still probably aren't drinking enough. Something that works for me and my clients is to drink half of your total body weight in ounces of water per day. (So if you are 150 lbs, 75 ounces of water is your target.) While your drinking water is working from the inside out, give your skin a boost. On the first night back after your trip (and after your scrub down in the shower), use a hydrating face mask.
Now, aren’t you glad to be back?
