From Bobbi’s Desk: 5 Tips for a Healthy & Happy Holiday

Written by: Bobbi

It’s official: holiday season is in full swing. But just because you’re dashing between dinners and happy hours doesn’t mean you need to overdo it and go crazy. The key? Change your mindset and change how you approach things. Here are some of my tips for a happy and healthy holiday season.

Fill Up on Fiber

It’s never good to show up to the holiday party on an empty stomach. Try eating something high in fiber before you head out the door. I love the GG Crispbread crackers. They have 3g of fiber and will totally fill you up. Have two of those and you won’t be tempted to touch the bread basket. (I keep them in my purse for those unexpected moments when the bread is calling my name.) And if you’re going to be drinking, a snack beforehand is even more important.

Eat More Veggies

You don’t have to totally avoid the cheese and charcuterie station. Just skip the crackers and baguette slices and load up on the crudités instead. If you take a piece of cheese or meat – be mindful.

Stay Hydrated

Drink water between cocktails — especially if you’re going to have more than one. And make sure to arrive already hydrated.

Plan Your Meals

Sometimes I’ll eat a full meal before I head out to a restaurant with a big group. This way I know I’ve had some protein, vegetables and fiber and am happy to just order a salad and a cooked vegetable from the menu. It eliminates the risk of overdoing it.

Don’t Wait for January

You don’t have to wait for the new year to have a fresh start — do it now. Keep track of what you’re eating, be mindful about how you’re treating your body and stay positive. And make sure you have a go to pair of tuxedo or velvet pants that is a wee bit forgiving.
