The Best Travel Destinations for Beauty Junkies

No vacation is truly complete without indulging in a spa day — or two. Yes, your traditional zen treatment room with a really strong masseuse can do the trick, but we’re talking the stress-reducing, skin soothing experiences that take place in some of the most mineral dense hot springs and bodies of water in the world. From the Dead Sea to the Blue Lagoon, there’s an entire world of beauty treatments available that you just can’t get anywhere else. So whether you’re looking to hop on a plane to Israel or embark on a road trip to California, these are the destinations every beauty-obsessed traveler needs to experience.

Calistoga Hot Springs, California

You don’t have to leave the U.S. to experience the nutrients of some world-famous hot springs. Based just outside of wine country in Northern California, Calistoga’s mineral springs are frequented by tourists looking for a spa experience that’ll not just relieve stress, but also improve circulation and skin conditions.

The Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Iceland may be known for it’s endless snow and frigid temperatures, but there’s a ton of beauty — and warmth — in the bright blue water of one of the country’s largest attractions, the Blue Lagoon. The geothermal water's high content of Silica, Algae and many other minerals is so soothing to the skin that psoriasis treatments are offered, as well as indulgent spa treatments like facials and massage. And yes, definitely opt for the silica face mask that's offered when you get there — your skin will thank you.

The Dead Sea, Israel

There’s much more to the Dead Sea than just walking away with that token photo of yourself floating in the salt-heavy water at the lowest point of elevation on earth. With about 10x more salt content than the ocean, the body of water, along with it’s dense mud at the bottom, is so rich in minerals and nutrients that it can cure skin issues like eczema and psoriasis. Visitors often slather their entire body in the body of water’s mud, and go for a dip in the body of water, leaving their skin soft and exfoliated. Can’t make it all the way to Israel? Try Ahava’s Dead Sea salt soak, or slather your body in the Israel-based brand’s Dead Sea mud.

Montecatini Terme, Italy

There’s a reason why Madonna sourced water from Montecatini’s springs to create her skincare line, MDNA Skin, which recently launched in the U.S. The water from the Tuscan hot springs is so coveted that it was only recently shared with a non-Italian skincare brand. Take a day trip to the area to relax in the hot, mineral-rich thermal pools, and finish the day with a glass of wine from Tuscany’s famed vineyards.
