Talking with Stylist Kate Young

Written by: Sara Bliss

Brooklyn-based stylist Kate Young has a roster of it-girl clients including Michelle Williams, Selena Gomez, Margot Robbie, Sienna Miller and Natalie Portman. Kate’s clients all exude that effortlessly cool look that’s actually not so easy to achieve. And it’s not just stars who rely on her take on fashion, Tod’s, Halston, and Target have all hired her as a consultant.

Kate’s career took off when she was a stylist Vogue and opened the door for a exciting freelance career. Here, she reveals what makes her stand out, her beauty must-haves, and what keeps her going.

Big Break:

I worked at Vogue and Teen Vogue styling a lot of celebrities for them. They would ask to borrow things from shoot to wear to premieres and press and my business just grew out of that.

Personal Style:

Minimal, edgy, classic.

Standing Out:

I think what I’m good at is making celebrities look like themselves while wearing the most relevant fashion.

Fuel:

I drink a ton of coffee.

Beauty From the Inside Out:

I love collagen powder for my skin. I also love Dr. Frank Lipman and do whatever he says.

Product Obsession:

Drunk Elephant Vitamin C. It works like nothing I’ve ever used before. Improved my skin clarity, texture and tone.

Biggest Hurdle:

Balancing family and work is pretty tricky. I have high standards for myself at work and home and it’s impossible to always live up to my own expectations.

Currently Working On:

Traveling to the South of France for the Louis Vuitton show, which two of my clients will attend.
