Joey Fatone became a household name in the mid-1990s as a member of *NSYNC. After becoming one of the biggest bands in the world, the band called it quits and the five members went their separate ways. Since then, Joey has acted in movies like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, competed in Dancing With The Stars and is now hosting the game show, Common Knowledge. He’s a down-to-earth guy with a lot of star power, and a really long resume. We sat down to talk about his many career hats on this week’s episode of Long Story Short.

On the end of *NSYNC…

Everyone wanted to do their own thing. We were working a lot. I became a father at 23. It was taking me away from my family. It was one of those things where we said, let’s take a little bit of a break. I did Broadway for a while. I did Rent for six months, I did Little Shop of Horrors. That was my first love.

On His Food Truck Business…

I own a hot dog joint. I love food. I have done a lot of cooking stuff. Being from Brooklyn, I always wanted to do something, either a pizza joint or a hot dog joint. I met this guy from Chicago that has a place called Chubby Wieners and I wanted to franchise it. My friend looked at the numbers and said, you should just do it yourself. We went through the whole process of doing the tasting, the decor, finding the different flavors, finding the symbol. We had it in a mall for about a year, now it’s a food truck.

On How Dealing with Long Days...

I’ve been trained in a sense, many years of doing it. I’ve been doing it since I was 17. I was going through some calendars of when *NSYNC was doing stuff, I look at it now and say, “Hell no, I’m not doing that now.” From traveling all the time and doing all the interviews, [today] I’m on autopilot.

On What He Wants to Do Next…

I’d love to do more acting. It’s fun for me. I like having fun, I never really perfected something in a sense. No one really perfects their craft, they are always learning. That is the thing about me, I do a little bit of everything very well and I get by. When you get to be my age, you start to learn what’s important, what’s fun and what’s appealing to you. For me, I like to leave a little bit of a legacy for my family.

On the one piece of advice he’d give...

Always wear clean underwear? [Laughs] If you have a dream — I know it sounds cheesy — but if you have a dream, try it. And if you fail and you still like it, don’t give up on it.
