Fashion Week Diary: Rachel Roy and Anna Wintour

I was fortunate enough to work with designer Rachel Roy for many seasons during New York Fashion Week. Today, we are still great friends, and support each other in all things: love, work, and play. I remember this moment from one of her runway shows when we were just an hour or so away from show time. The models were in hair, talking on the phone, some were still getting their nails done, and others were just coming in from being in other shows. We hadn’t even done the makeup test when I heard a commotion, and a panicked Rachel ran in. She had just gotten word that Anna (that’s the Anna Wintour from Vogue), was arriving in three minutes and wanted a preview of the show. Stoic as always, I said to Rachel, “I got this.”

My team threw makeup on the girls as they got dressed. It wasn’t perfect, but was just the right amount of color and mix of shine and matte the look needed. Anna came in, nodded her head, and left. A stamp of approval. My buddy and photographer, Ben Ritter, snapped this pic as a reminder of that moment.
