Who doesn’t want bouncy, supply, hydrated skin? It all comes down to a healthy lifestyle (lots of water, colorful foods, and plenty of sleep) and the ingredients you’re putting on your skin. Not sure where to start? Consider this your skin care cheat sheet and look for these key ingredients listed in your products.

Shea Butter

Consider this nature’s moisturizer. Packed with antioxidants and polyphenols, this rich plant extract helps to calm, soften, and heal the skin. Shea butter is also high in skin-replenishing linoleic, oleic, and stearic acids, which may help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Argan Oil

You’ve probably heard it referred to as “liquid gold” and that’s not too far off. Argan oil is derived from the nut produced by the argan tree and is packed with fatty acids and antioxidants that nourish and protect the skin. Argan oil contains high levels of linoleic acid (just like shea butter), a skin loving omega-6 fatty acid, that can help reduce acne and redness, protect your lipid barrier, and soothe irritation. There’s also Ferulic acid, a potent polyphenol, which reduces photo-aging (aka sun damage).

Jojoba Oil

Derived from the nut of the jojoba plant, which grows in desert climates in North America, this antioxidant and antibacterial oil is rich in replenishing fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. The texture is similar to your skin’s natural oils (this is called biometric), which makes it an effective hydrator for all skin types, especially oily or acne-prone skin.

Macadamia Seed Oil

This non-comedogenic oil acts similar to skin’s sebum (biometric!) to hydrate and soothe without clogging pores. Like other plant oils, macadamia seed oil is chock full of fatty acids, including oleic acid, which makes it ideal for dry skin types, and palmitoleic acid, which leaves skin supple. It’s also super lightweight and absorbs quickly.

Trehalose

This is a naturally-occurring sugar found in plants and fungi, also known as “resurrection sugar” for its ability to help plants and insects withstand extreme conditions. Pretty cool. We like it because it helps trap moisture in the skin and acts as an antioxidant to mitigate sun damage and signs of aging.

Sunflower Seed Oil

Rich in vitamins and fatty acids, this natural plant oil helps the skin to rid itself of acne-inducing bacteria and to retain moisture. Sunflower seed oil is packed with beta-carotene, a compound that converts to Vitamin A and has antioxidant properties.
