We want to help you get to know the ingredients in your products better. We’re tapping Jones Road Head of Product Development, Chrissy DeVries, for a little ingredient education.
The Ingredient: Vitamin E or Tocopherol
What Is It?
If you’re looking at the ingredient list on the back of that beauty product, you probably see tocopherol listed, that’s vitamin E. It’s a pretty impressive ingredient that has a variety of uses (and benefits) when it comes to its use in cosmetics and skincare.
What You Need to Know
When it comes to your skin, vitamin E is packed with benefits. As an antioxidant, it takes on free radicals, helps to reduce inflammation, and can prevent cell damage from environmental stressors. It’s also used to aid in the healing of cuts and burns.
The ingredient can also be used to help stabilize cosmetic formulas. Think of it like this: in the same way it acts as an antioxidant on your skin, it also prevents products from oxidizing as they are exposed to the air with regular use. Oxidation isn’t necessarily dangerous, but it can lead to shifts in the smell and color of a product.
Using vitamin E in our Jones Road formulas means we don’t have to use BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene), a stabilizer that has been linked to allergies and other potentially serious health concerns.
Why We Love It
On top of all these other benefits, vitamin E is also a very effective moisturizing ingredient, helping to soothe dry skin and strengthen barrier function.
Where You’ll Find It
It’s part of our best selling Miracle Balm and Miracle Cream formulas and helps keep lips hydrated in our Cool Gloss.
