How to Update Your Beauty Routine for Summer

Written by: Alexandra Perron, Managing Editor

Summer can be brutal on your skin. It’s hot and humid outside and a polar vortex of AC inside. Some days it feels like your face is melting and on others it’s just the opposite. So, how to deal? It’s all about making some strategic product swaps and a few tweaks to your beauty routine. Here are some of my go-tos:

Change Your Moisturizer

As temps rise, the last thing you want on your face are products that feel heavy. Those thick, souffle-like creams you slather on all winter long? Move them to the back of the shelf for the next few months. Switching to a lighter moisturizer will keep your skin hydrated without weighing you down. The Oil Stick from Jones Road is great for adding instant moisture thanks to a lightweight blend of apricot, jojoba, rosehip, and sunflower oils.

If you’re someone with extra dry skin, keep your thick moisturizer on hand as a night cream. And don't forget your eye cream—consider it a seasonless staple.

Edit Your SPF

You need to wear SPF everyday. No exceptions. Look for a multitasking sunscreen, like a tinted moisturizer or primer with SPF and knock two birds with one stone. Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen has been my go-to since it first launched. It’s lightweight, packed with antioxidants, and goes on with a velvety smooth finish—goodbye pores! It like using it as a primer and my husband wears it on its own. When it comes to reapplying, convenience is key. I’m a big fan of stick and powder sunscreens (I keep Supergoop Glow Stick and (Re)Setting Powder on hand) for this purpose.

Swap Your Lipstick

Maybe it’s just me, but putting on a matte lipstick in the summer is the last thing I feel like doing. I gravitate towards tinted balms, stains, and glosses. I plan on having the Jones Road Lip Tints on heavy rotation this summer. No mess, no fuss, and easy to reapply (even without a mirror).

Start Multitasking

Speaking of multitasking, your SPF doesn’t need to be the only product pulling double duty. Cut down on steps in your routine with a one-and-done product like Jones Road Miracle Balm (use as highlighter, blush, bronzer or on lips) and The Lipe & Cheek Stick (use as blush and lip color).

Fake Your Tan

Ditch the tanning oil and get your glow on with the help of your beauty products. Jones Road Miracle Balm in Sunkissed, Disco, and Tawny are all perfect for making it look like you spent the day at the beach (without the sand). Or try Jones Road Shimmer Face Oil in Midas or Bronze to add instant radiance to the face and body.
