Claudia Schiffer's Seventeen Magazine Cover

Written by: Bobbi

I first worked with Claudia Schiffer for the cover of Seventeen Magazine in 1994. This shoot was a profile, not a fashion spread, so the clothes, hair and makeup were quite classic and simple — which I guess is why I got hired.

Claudia is so pretty in person (seriously), but when she walks on set she is very unassuming. She has a sweet, kind personality. I never saw her in a bad mood or rude to anyone. She treated everyone from assistants to the editor-in-chief with respect and kindness.

What I loved most about working with her was that as soon as she would have her makeup done and get dressed to step in front of the camera, she was a totally chameleon.

Here’s how to get this classic, Ralph Lauren-esque look:

Start by using a moisturizer to prep the skin. Since it’s not a dewy look, choose one that is light like a lotion. Next, conceal any darkness under the eyes with a product one shade lighter than your foundation. Then apply a foundation all over the face with a light hand. It should almost look sheer, but still cover any redness. Add a dusting of sheer powder to set.

Select a pinch-my-cheeks blush — a sandy pink is good for light skin. Claudia has iconic bedroom eyes, also known as deep-set, so it’s important not to overload dark colors. Use lighter, ashy tones and sweep them out. Add a thin black or charcoal liner to the top lash line only and apply two coats of very black mascara. It brings strength to the eyes without overpowering. Fill in brows with a pencil or powder to fluff and define brows. Apply a sweet pink lip and you’re done. It is still as modern today as it was then.
