These photos are from a really fun and epic shoot with Eva Herzigova for Vogue Italia that took place in Palm Beach at Mar-A-Lago, the over-the-top, ornate residence owned by Donald Trump. (LOL.)
It was shot by Walter Chin, with styling by Anna Dello Russo and hair by Serge Normant. We all stayed together at The Breakers, a very upscale hotel. We all had rooms in the same corridors and I would go up very early to the model’s rooms while they were having breakfast.
I remember this shot was at the end of the afternoon and the light was perfect. She was playing backgammon while drinking a martini. Serge has just retouched her hair and I remember him holding a can of Ellnet hairspray. Back then, there was no manicurist on set so I did her nails and changed the tone of her lip color. There was always the discussion over whether they should match or not.
It was the era of very thin eyebrows — her brows were overplucked, but not by me. To get this look, I used mega mascara, at least three to four coats and a black pencil liner with damp, charcoal eyeshadow lined on top. Her shadow was a russet red shade. (Apparently, red eyeshadow is back. The only way to wear it without looking crazy is to first define the eye with a very dark liner.) We mixed up a shimmering oil and applied it to her arms. I remember it all like it was yesterday.
At this same shoot, I took this photos of Eva holding my son, Cody. Eva and I became friends and I was invited to her wedding, where she married Tico Torres from Bon Jovi. I wasn’t able to go or do her makeup for the wedding, but I can imagine it was really fun.
