Lessons In Cool: Crown Affair Founder Dianna Cohen
Written by: Alexandra Perron, Managing Editor
Welcome to Lessons In Cool, a new series all about the people we’re constantly inspired by. They are tastemakers, curators of style, thought leaders, and well, just cool.
If there is one thing Dianna Cohen knows, it's how to build a cool brand. Through her agency, Levitate, she’s worked with everyone from Outdoor Voices and Tamara Mellon to Flamingo and Seed. In early 2020, she launched Crown Affair, a collection of hair care essentials inspired by the many conversations with friends about her own routine. (In case you haven’t noticed, she has really good hair.)
There are beautiful handmade combs, perfect silk scrunchies and a brush so good it rivals Mason Pearson. Basically, Crown Affair has everything you need to have a good hair day, everyday. We caught up with the founder to hear more about her routine, must-have products and how she defines cool.
Name & Occupation:
Dianna Cohen, Founder & CEO of Crown Affair
Describe yourself in 3 words:
Curious. Enthusiastic. Thoughtful.
First thing you do when you wake up:
The first thing I do when I wake up is wash my face and brush my teeth, followed immediately by 30 minutes of stretching and foam rolling, and 30 minutes of ‘Morning Pages’ journaling. Moving my body and journaling before work allows me to have a day of flow. I find that my work day is much more productive and effective if I take the time to do the things that make me feel whole.
The 5 beauty products you can’t live without:
- Drunk Elephant Protini™ Polypeptide Cream
- Biologique Recherche Masque Vivant
- Seed Daily Symbiotic
- Crown Affair The Oil
- Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray
Your style uniform is:
Simple and personal. I live in vintage Levi’s denim or high-waisted slightly-wide pants. I’ll pair that with my favorite vintage t-shirts, a cashmere sweater, or a long-sleeve knit. If I have a meeting or I’m leaving the house, I’ll add a blazer or jacket to give it a bit more of a finish. I’ll always prefer to feel comfortable and confident in what I’m wearing— the goal is to feel the most me so I almost forget about what I’m wearing.
The song you have on repeat:
Xinobi - Far Away Place (Jody Wisternoff & James Grant remix)
Recipe you’ve perfected:
My fiancé cooks our weekday meals, so I love making breakfast/brunch on the weekends. I’ve finally perfected my “low and slow” ratatouille scramble. We look forward to putting on Bill Withers and dancing while the eggs slowly do their thing.
Last person you texted:
My sister, Alexandra.
What does “cool” mean to you?
Kind. Curious. Easy. Fun. Funny. A light, a source.
